How Chalene Johnson’s 30-Day Challenge Changed My Life

In January I did something completely life-changing. I was part of the first ever class of Chalene Johnson’s 30 Day Challenge. Some of you may have heard me talk about her before. This is how her website describes her:

Chalene Johnson is an entrepreneur, TV fitness personality, clothing designer, author, motivational speaker, choreographer, wife, mother of 2 and relatable girl next door.

We all know that marketing materials can sometimes ‘bend the truth’ a little to put that perfect positive spin on whatever they are promoting. But you know what? In this case, I can say that her description is totally accurate. (OK, here is where I confess to being a little star-struck, but I have reasons, people!) I first learned about Chalene from my good friend and fellow blogger, Kari, who recently started  The Simple Buffalo Life (stop by and give her some love from me!). At that time, Kari had lost over 60 lbs in about 6 months and I was just in awe of her. I was looking to lose some weight myself, so obviously I wanted to know her secrets! She told me had started with the Turbo Jam program and really started dropping the pounds when she moved to the more intense Turbo Fire program. I rushed out to check it out and got a copy of Turbo Jam. (I’ll post my fitness journey another time.)

The point is, I loved what I saw. Chalene was so HAPPY and seemed so genuine. I actually WANTED to watch the dvd and do the workout! I wanted to believe that she was as nice as she seemed. My answer came when I became a fan of her Facebook page and followed her on Twitter.  I had a question about my workout regime and messaged her on Twitter. I hardly expected a response, at the most a general answer to my question on her Twitter stream; but within a day, she replied directly to me! I was TOTALLY STUNNED. I had just had personal contact with that awesome lady on the dvd’s! (See, I had a reason to become star-struck.) :)

Anyway, soon after that, she released her 30-Day Challenge. This is not about fitness or weight loss, but a Personal Productivity Program. (In addition to her fitness work, she is a motivational speaker and Life Coach). It came at just the right time when I was more ready to start taking charge of my life than I even knew. During this challenge things really started changing for me. I was inspired and on fire to make big changes. The life goals that I had been dancing around for so long started to become crystal clear. Most importanly, the program helped me to TAKE ACTION.

If you’re on Twitter or Facebook, you know that I now frequently post about making a to-do list and checking it frequently (several times a DAY). This was one of the main things I took away from Chalene’s challenge. That single practice has changed my life immeasurably.

It is also worth saying that Chalene really is as approachable as she seems. After that first Twitter message, I have had the pleasure of several more interactions with her. It is one of my BIG-5 PUSH goals to actually interview her, so watch this space!

Just after I completed the 30-Day Challenge, Chalene did a free Social Media series which has really  turned around my experience of Facebook and especially Twitter. I have come across some fantastic people through it and am really starting to understand how it all comes together. Before that, I didn’t really *get* Twitter. Now I totally love it! Another major bonus was finding people like Brian Tracy and Jack Canfield who have also been instrumental in pushing me towards my goals.

As you can see, this process really has changed my entire life and seeing it all written out ‘on paper’ makes me so excited about what I have accomplished in only two short months! (Minus two weeks that I took *off* to spend with my mom when she visited.) I can say without a doubt that I’m looking forward to finding out exactly how much more I can achieve in the rest of 2011.
