Working on Habits

Working on Habits

We all have things we’d like to change about our lives. You know what I mean, those little habits that are keeping us from reaching the heights of our potential or at the very least keeping us from finishing today’s to-do list.

For me, one of those areas is self-discipline. I envy those people out there who can mechanically just ‘do’ what they need to do every day to be productive. Me, I am a dreamer…I could easily spend my whole day dreaming of ways to make my life (and the lives of those around me) a little better, a little more beautiful, a little more inspired. I know it’s a gift, but it is also my downfall. I am great at planning, my home is full of lists and various organizing tools.  At some point though, the dreamers out there like me need to turn those dreams to action. That is where I usually come unstuck. I don’t like the nitty-gritty. There…I’ve said it. It just seems too much like ‘WORK’ to me, and THAT is most definitely a four-letter word.

Many people say that you can make or break a habit in 21 days (or 28, depending on who you talk to.) So, spurred on by this thought, I am taking a step to reach my potential. I am joining NaBloPoMo this November. If you don’t know what that is, click here. In a nutshell, it’s a commitment to writing one blog post every day for a month. My hope is that by doing this, I will become more disciplined at writing every day, not just when I feel ‘inspired’. The writers out there will know what I am talking about. Inevitably, this leads to the dreaded writer’s block at some point. I’ve been there recently and I don’t want to go back any time soon.

So, join me in my journey this November. Maybe you’d like to join NaBloPoMo yourself, or maybe there are other habits you would like to work on. Post a comment and let me know. Let’s help each other reach our potential together!

  1. Blogging’s definitely a habit I have had for 2 years now, and I’m so glad that I do!

  2. Go you! I’m not going to commit to a post a day, because I just don’t have THAT much to say! But, I’ll be sure to come read what’s on your mind!
